One of the best things about our Instructional Design and Technology team here at Wichita State is our variety of interests. Each of us brings a different educational and professional background to our creative environment. In our opinion, this variety opens the door to exciting and creative opportunities for online education. Like us, we want the Wichita State online experience to be anything but ordinary for our students.
We admit, not all aspects of online teaching are as fun or engaging as others, so in an effort to engage learners, we try to explore as many tools as we can to strengthen the online learning experience. Luckily, in this office, we can always find someone who has an interesting understanding or lesson to share about a tool. In an effort to spread this knowledge across campus, our office has created the Tiny Desk Training series. Over the past few months, we have hosted face-to-face training sessions over Twitter, Discussion Boards, Badges & Achievements, Photoshop, Panopto, Blackboard Collaborate, and Creative Commons Licensing. To register for a face-to-face training, select mytraining under the Faculty/Staff tab in myWSU. We’ll have our September training list available soon, so check for updates frequently!
But what if you don’t have the spare time to attend a Tiny Desk Training? Fortunately, we have two solutions for you! First, is our Rolling Desk Training. Any of our Tiny Desk Trainings can be picked up and moved right to your department! For more information on scheduling a Rolling Desk Training session, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Our second option is Flying Desk Training. All of our Tiny Desk Training instructors have turned their lessons into easy-to-access Brainshark videos! These videos provide audio lecture, PowerPoint, and screen capture to help you learn about tools available to you. Here is an example of one of our Brainshark videos about including Badges and Achievements in your online courses!
