Navigate to panopto.wichita.edu and login with the Blackboard option.
Once you’re in, locate the folder and recording you wish to add captions to.
Hover over the listing on the Panopto page and choose “Edit.”
Click the “Captions” option and then the dropdown labeled “Import captions.”
If the recording is new, and if the machine transcription process is finished, you’ll have the option to “Import automatic captions.” Click that option.
The captions will instantly appear, and they will be immediately editable.
Because they’re machine-generated, and because machines aren’t perfect, there’s a chance that not every word will be correct. With this interface, you’ll be able to quickly correct the machine transcription errors.
When you’re done, hit the “Publish” button in the upper right. The captions will then be available to viewers.
If the recording is brand new but you don’t see the option to import automatic captions, you might need to wait a few minutes or perhaps longer for the option to appear. (Transcription time can vary based on server load, traffic, etc. At the very least allow an amount of time equal to the length of the recording — if your lecture is an hour long, it might take an hour or longer for the transcript to be ready.)
