The LMS Review Committee met for the second time on May 12 (yesterday, as I write this post) and continued to develop our plan for the review of the Learning Management Systems we will review.
Based on the work done in the first meeting, we have a set of categorized criteria that will be reviewed by the committee. Each category will be reviewed by a subcommittee, reviewing that factor across all four LMS options.
- Communication Needs
- Tool integration
- Multimedia (Audio and video)
- System Training and Support
- Social Features
- Mobile and Student Response
- Course Building and Management
- Usability (including Accessibility)
- Assignments and Grading
- Security and Authentication
Subcommittee chairs were recruited, and we are close to having at least one additional person on each subcommittee at this time.
Here’s the current version of the review spreadsheet, with all criteria and the current committee assignments:
- LMS Wish List Spreadsheet (updated 5/13/2016)
With that, the subcommittee chairs are charged with moving forward and beginning to review the available LMS options. As of this meeting, credentials for the testing sandboxes for two of the four candidates were provided (Canvas and Brightspace). We are still working with Blackboard to set up the Ultra sandbox for this review, and working to secure a Moodle testing space as well.
This will be the last full, in person meeting until august. In July, we hope to have a virtual meeting or check-in from subcommittee chairs to provide a sort of status report on the review. We’ll be in touch with details of that as we get closer.
