As we wrap up our final days of the Fall 2015 semester, it’s already time to start looking ahead to spring. One of the very last things I do before I cross another successful semester off my schedule is export all of my online classes. The Export Course feature in Blackboard “creates a package of the Course content that can later be imported and used to teach another Course with the same content.”
The Export Course tool, unlike the Archive Course feature, does not interact with any user data. It only exports course content and tools. When you export your course, it creates a “compressed .ZIP file” of your course. But users beware: do not unzip your exported course content. If you do, the package will not import correctly the following semester.
The export function in Blackboard is really helpful for instructors who have courses with a lot of content. Exporting entire courses saves you a lot of time copying individual pieces of information. This way, you can make identical versions of your course from semester to semester.
If you export your course content and use Panopto regularly, don’t forget to provision your course for Panopto! Provisioning creates a new course folder for your Panopto videos and helps them to run properly. You will not be able to view Panopto videos from a previous course without provisioning.
