Important Information for Faculty

Posted on August 15, 2016 by Dr. Carolyn Speer

Everyone is busy getting ready for the first day of classes. Some important notes as you prepare:

Training On Your Schedule

Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) offers a consolidated training website with on-demand training to help you as you set up your courses. In addition, IDT is offering a Blackboard template appropriate for all WSU courses.  This template is not required, but you might find it useful.  In addition, you will notice that the menu buttons on your course have changed. These changes were put in place to make Blackboard easier for you and your students to navigate.  To learn more about these changes, follow these links:

  •        On demand Training Videos: https://ida.wichita.edu/?page_id=1564
  •        University Template: https://ida.wichita.edu/?page_id=3581
  •        Menu Button Changes: https://ida.wichita.edu/?p=3833

If you would like to request a training video be added, please submit that request here: https://ida.wichita.edu/?page_id=1562

Course Merges

If you would like to merge a course to reduce repetitive course management tasks or to merge a lab course within its parent, please submit a support ticket through the Blackboard Support area of the OneStop: wichita.edu/onestop

Classroom Technology Training

Classrooms across campus are equipped with consistent, standard technology and A/V equipment.  The technology is locked with a consistent key that will work in all classrooms. Faculty can obtain a key by attending a short training session.  Faculty are encouraged to make sure their assigned rooms have the technology they need. If there are additional needs or questions please call 978-3588.

Dates and times for Fall 2016 Classroom technology trainings are available here: https://ida.wichita.edu/?page_id=4089

Semester Start Key #1 FAQ: Why can I not see or access my course?

The most common reason you cannot see or access your course in Blackboard is that you have not been officially assigned to the course by your department. Check with your department to see if they have assigned you to your course. If you are listed as the instructor of record in Banner and your course is not available to you in Bb, please submit a support ticket through the Blackboard Support area of the OneStop:

Reminder about Third Party Resources

You may be approached by vendors with alternative products to the tools we have on campus — student response tools, alternative learning management systems, classroom technology solutions, and so on. It is not acceptable to require the use of these alternative tools, especially when an equivalent exists that has already been paid for by student tuition and fees.  For more information about third party resources, go here: http://webs.wichita.edu/?u=mrcweb2&p=/instructional_technology/third_party_resources/

Information about Classroom Clickers

The Media Resources Center will no longer be providing sets of audience response clickers for check-out starting this Fall semester. For more information, read this article: https://ida.wichita.edu/?p=4080
