In an effort to eliminate unused space and streamline the Blackboard experience for Wichita State users, IDT has made a few changes to Blackboard coming in Fall 2016. These changes have been made only to the left-hand navigation bar. In the past, the navigation bar has included pages for Announcements, Home Page, Information, Content, Discussions, Groups, Tools, Help, and OneStop (Support) and is shown in Figure 1.
Starting in Fall 2016, the navigation bar will look slightly different. We have eliminated some areas that frequently go unused by faculty and added some areas that are often requested by students. The new navigation bar will include Announcements, Information, Discussions, My Grades, Email, Tools, Help, and OneStop (Support) and is shown in Figure 2.
With this new rendition of the navigation bar, students will be able to easily locate their grades for your course and send emails to their instructor or classmates. As you might have noticed, the “Tools” menu option is now hidden from students. If you would like to make the “Tools” page available for students, watch our short tutorial video on How to Hide and Show Menu Buttons.
If you like to use the “Content,” “Home Page,” or “Groups” options in your Blackboard course and are worried about their disappearance in Fall 2016, have no fear. All of these pages can be easily added back into your course. To learn how to add and re-arrange the menu buttons on your navigation bar, watch our short tutorial video on How to Create and Manage Menu Buttons in Blackboard.
If you’d prefer face-to-face training from a member of our team about managing your menu buttons in Blackboard, we offer one-on-one and group trainings. To schedule a training time with us to discuss these changes, visit and fill out our Schedule Training Form.
These changes will only affect classes created for the Fall 2016 semester. These will not affect any classes that were previously created. We at IDT hope that these changes to your new Blackboard pages in Fall 2016 continue to help meet student and faculty needs. If you have any questions or concerns about the changes, please send us a message on our Ask IDT page.
