Are you weighting your grades in Blackboard? If so, you should consider contacting IDT so we can help assure the calculations are set up correctly in your grade book.
Weighting grades can be relatively simple in Blackboard, and if your calculations are straightforward, you can learn how to do it by watching this short video. But if you plan to do any kind of advanced weighting (consolidating grades into intermediate columns is common), it would be a good idea to have us take a look. We can assure you are not inappropriately averaging averages, for example, but most importantly we can be that extra set of eyes to make sure you are getting what you want out of your efforts.
Every May and December we get calls from professors who are fielding student complaints that the Blackboard weighted grades do not follow the same rules as the professor stated in the syllabus. Frequently these grade book problems take us a few hours to untangle, and they cause everyone stress. Avoiding that last-minute spate of student emails and the recalculation of final grades is as simple as making sure the weighting rules are set up correctly at the start.
Blackboard’s grade weighting system works, and it can work for you. But an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and now is the time to prevent end-of-term problems.
